Who we are
Sifted is a product of AI for All, LLC (“Sifted,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). Questions about this policy can be sent to support@siftedchef.com.
Information we collect
Depending on how you use Sifted, we may collect:
- Account and profile information, such as your email address, display name, sign-in method and identifiers, measurement preference, and onboarding choices. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the account details that provider makes available to us; Apple may give us a private-relay email address.
- Your kitchen, including saved and manually created recipes, source links and attribution, cookbooks and memberships, favorites, personal notes, grocery items, ingredient checkmarks, serving choices, cooking progress, and any nutrition analysis you request.
- Content you submit for Sifted Chef or recipe import,including links, text, Chef questions and conversation history, recipe drafts, and photos you choose to take or select. A dictated question becomes editable text; if you send it, that text may be saved with the conversation.
- Subscription and usage information, such as your plan, trial or purchase status, store and product identifiers, transaction references, Sift and Chef usage, feature interactions, device or app details, diagnostics, and security events. Your app store handles your payment method; Sifted receives subscription status rather than your full card details.
- Communications, such as messages you send to support and the account, invitation, and service emails needed to help you use Sifted.
We receive information directly from you, from the sign-in and app store services you use, and from recipe pages or social posts you ask us to process. You do not need to connect a social-media account to submit a public recipe link.
How we use information
We use information to:
- Provide, synchronize, and secure your Sifted account.
- Import, create, adapt, organize, scale, and display recipes.
- Maintain cookbooks, grocery lists, cooking progress, and notes.
- Answer Chef questions and provide requested nutrition estimates.
- Verify purchases and provide Free, Trial, or Premium access.
- Send authentication, service, and support communications.
- Measure feature use, reliability, and the cost of operating Sifted.
- Prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
Recipe sources and AI-powered features
When you submit a recipe website or social-post link, Sifted retrieves information available from that source. Extraction can use structured page data, a social-content service, or an AI fallback. We keep source links and attribution so you can return to the original creator. We may cache an image from a public recipe source in a public image store so the imported recipe remains visible if the source image changes. This is separate from photos you upload privately.
Sifted Chef uses AI to answer questions, interpret selected photos, create or remix recipes, and help during cooking. A nutrition request may use AI to match ingredient descriptions before Sifted calculates an estimate from food data. We send the relevant request, recipe context, and any selected photo or audio to our AI provider to carry out these features. We use that content to provide the feature you request, not to train a Sifted AI model. OpenAI may retain request data under its own API data controls, including for security and abuse monitoring.
Before your first AI request, Sifted asks for your explicit permission to share the submitted content with OpenAI and to process recipe links with Apify when needed. Declining preserves your pending input and does not start AI processing or use an allowance. You can withdraw permission in You → Account & privacy. This stops new AI requests; work already in progress may finish. Saved recipes remain available. This choice is separate from camera, microphone, notification, and analytics choices.
Photos, voice, and device permissions
You choose when to allow camera, photo-library, microphone, or notification access. Photos submitted for a recipe scan or Chef cooking check are processed for that request; cooking-check photos are not added to your saved recipe or Chef conversation as image files. If you add a finished-dish photo as a recipe cover, we store that photo privately until you remove it or delete your account. When creating a recipe from food photos, a finished-dish photo may be suggested as its cover; you can change or remove it before saving. Pending creation photos are kept on your device with the draft so you can resume after an interruption, and are removed when you save or discard it.
Voice dictation sends a short recording for transcription. Sifted does not save the audio as part of your account; the editable transcript is sent to Chef only if you submit it. Cooking timers use device alarms or notifications where available. A timer alert may show its label and recipe title on your device’s lock screen.
When you share
Anyone with an active, unlisted recipe link can view that recipe without an account. Saving it requires an account and creates an independent copy. Revoking the link stops new access through it, but does not erase copies already saved or previews already received. A private dish photo is included only when you choose to share it.
A cookbook invitation reveals a preview of that cookbook. A one-time link may be forwarded and claimed by the first eligible recipient. Members can view live recipes contributed to the cookbook; their creators still own those recipes. Leaving or removing a member withdraws that member’s contributions from the shared cookbook without deleting their personal recipes.
Personal notes, favorites, other cookbook memberships, cooking progress, and private file locations are not included in these shared views. Messaging apps and browsers may process a link to show a preview. Share links only with people you want to have access.
Service providers
We use Cloudflare to host the website; Supabase for account, database, storage, and backend services; OpenAI for AI and voice processing; Apify for some social-content extraction; Loops for transactional email; PostHog for optional product analytics; and RevenueCat to help manage native subscriptions. Apple and Google also process information when you use their sign-in or app-store services, under their own policies. The information each receives depends on the feature you use. We do not sell your personal information.
Optional product analytics
We use PostHog to understand onboarding, feature use, return visits, and subscription conversion. Events contain limited categories such as the feature, plan, or recipe-source platform, rather than your recipe content, questions, notes, photos, email, source URLs, or private sharing links. We use an anonymous device identifier before sign-in and your internal account identifier after sign-in. We disable IP-address storage, location enrichment, automatic interaction collection, and session replay.
You can turn off optional product analytics in Account & privacy under “Help improve Sifted.” Turning it off also removes pending analytics exports. Essential security, subscription verification, allowance enforcement, and content-free AI operational telemetry continue to support the service. On public sharing pages, we measure views and app or store opens using an anonymous browser identifier. We respect browser Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals. You can also change this browser’s preference below. Account deletion requests removal of your account-linked product analytics from PostHog.
Information on your device
Our website and apps use local browser or device storage to keep you signed in, remember an in-progress action, and keep timers and other functional settings working. Your device controls permissions for the camera, photo library, microphone, alarms, and notifications.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your account, saved kitchen, and Chef conversations while your account is active so you can return to them. You can delete your account from Sifted’s account settings. Deletion removes your account, recipes, cookbooks, grocery items, notes, progress, Chef history, and private uploaded photos from our active account systems. It does not delete a recipe another person previously saved as their own copy.
Backups and service-provider copies may remain under their retention schedules. Some usage, AI-cost, purchase, security, and other operational records may also remain after account deletion, including records with account or transaction identifiers, when needed to reconcile purchases, prevent abuse, operate the service, or meet legal obligations. How long these records remain depends on their purpose, applicable law, and the provider involved. Images cached from public recipe sources are separate from private uploads and may not be removed when you delete your account. Contact us if you need help removing one. Deleting a Sifted account does not cancel a subscription managed by Apple or Google; you must cancel it through the store where you purchased it.
To request access, correction, a copy, or deletion of your information, email support@siftedchef.com. We may ask you to verify your identity, including through another method if you signed in with Apple’s private email relay.
Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
Sifted is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, please contact us.
Your choices and regional rights
You can update certain account details and delete your account in the app. You can also change app permissions in your device settings. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or receive a copy of your information, or to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise a request; we may need to verify your identity.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Sifted changes. We will post the updated policy here and revise the effective date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice when appropriate.
